The first edition of Gong was published in June, 1999, as a development of an "insert" in Eksponen Tabloid, in the interest of private radio community at that time. Gong Magazine aims at increasing public access to knowledge and concept of Arts, mainly the art treasures in diverse Indonesian cultures having been neglected. Gong seeks to present art traditions and the "forgettable" views. Knowledge of art diversities is expected to develop understanding and acknowledgment of diverse cultural values which are actually the root of present Indonesian national life.
Media and Art Foundation under which Gong was operated closed. Therefore, since 2007, Gong has been under the direction of YAYASAN TIKAR MEDIA BUDAYA.
