National kite festival has successfully held by the Department of Culture, Youth and Sports (Disbudpora) Kulon Progo regency in cooperation with the Tourism Office DIY, and the Komunitas Pelangi Yogyakarta on July 31- August 1 in Glagah Beach, Kulon Progo. National kite festival is the first time, and followed by tens of participants, 25 national participants and 17 local participants.
The national kite festival participants will compete in the category of traditional kites, two-dimensional, three dimensional, trains, until rokaku challenge (Japanese kite competition). The local class festivals are competing two-dimensional category and three dimensions.
Assessment of the above include the stability, the length of the rope, and a beautiful moment hovering. While the assessment under the stitch includes neatness, subtlety pictures or ornaments, and a beautiful colour. Special to the traditional categories, that more priority is the kite has high-pitched sounds.
"This is the first time held a national festival of DIY," said Pipo Arohmanuri, Head Office of Tourist Destination Object Section Tourism Office DIY.
Although the Tourism Office DIY has several times held a kite festival, the participants remain enthusiastic about the festival follow the national level because the total prize valued at Rp 28.950 million. The festival is expected to increase the attractiveness of Glagah Beach as a tourism destination.
"This event is expected to increase the attractiveness of Glagah Beach as one of the leading tourist objects in Kulon Progo. So that more tourists are interested to come there," added Pilo. To add a new tourist attraction, the kite festival is also celebrated kite players from Johor, Malaysia. Then, on Saturday night displayed lighted kite attraction in Glagah Beach. But, the lighted kite flown canceled because of wind conditions that are too tight that night.
Therefore, the attraction of players kite from Malaysia was expected to entertain visitors. In addition, a number of national players kite will also feature attraction at the festival. At the festival later players kite clubs participating in them came from Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java and South Kalimantan.
