Vesak Day is a one of the bigest feast for the Buddhist. It was celebrated by Buddhists at May 28, 2010. In Indonesia, Vesak Day concentrated at Borobudur Temple, one of the biggest Buddhist Temple in the world.
Vesak celebration led by tens of monks. And followed by thousand of Buddhists from three Sangha they are Mahayana, Teravada dan Tantrayana. They gather at Borobudur Temple early morning. The atmosphere feels sacred when the monks read prayers and mantras, occasionaly they bent down and praying. At 06.07.03 WIB, impresed more silence because they was meditated about 20 minutes. And then they continue with sprinkling the holy water from the Monks to Buddhists. The theme at Vesak Day of this year is "Sow The Seeds of Virtue". We expected to introspect ourself and improve our attitude to save the world’s condition that have damaged because decadency of ethics and erotion of civility. The virtue will cause something good for ourself and surrounding, now or future. The next prossesion was held in the afternoon, about three thousands peoples followed the procession to surround the temple. They did sow the flower around the temple as a symbol thankfulness to the Buddhist, Sidharta Gautama, over all the fortune that have obtained.
At night, as closure Vesak celebration, monks and buddhists flying lanterns as 750. They did after Puja Bakti and Pradaksina around the temple. They flying the lanterns together from 4 different location of Borobudur Temple. The lanterns flights accompanied with Buddhists spiritual song.
Usually Vesak day celebrate at May when the fullmoon. Vesak is the victory of mankind when Sidharta reach enlightenment with his own effort. At this celebration, buddists commemorate three important events. They are when Sidharta Gautama born, Sidharta Gautama became The Buddhist and when The Buddist was died. This celebration often called as Three Holy Vesak.
As long they used Borobudur for Vesak day, the temple was closed for public. But tourists can see and follow the prosesion just around the temple. They can not up to the temple until the prosession finished.
