Children Biennale, Kids Freedom of Expression Started Here

Biennale Anak (Children Biennale) is an art festival for children. That's the one of most important festival in Jogyakarta. Hundreds people ang children came and celebrated the freedom of expression through art performance. There are three resond behind? This the first festival, it's for kids and free for public.

The opening of Children Biennale was held on Friday, January 15th by Kartika Affandi, Indonesian famous painter, at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. It's the first biennale held in Jogjakarta. At 2.30 pm, the hundreds of children wore a unique attributes. They were come together and crowded the yard of Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. They were joined as the participant of culture parade, walking and dancing passing away Malioboro Street. Some art performances like Tedjo Badut, Pasukan Kethek, Sanggar Anak Alam (Salam), and other groups, either too.

The children presented the attractive performances. Sanggar Anak Alam custom the households like the pans, gallons, umbrellas, etc, creating a music harmoni, such as professional drum band parade. Pasukan Kethek wore the Hanumans (Monkey character in Javenese Mithology) attribute and sit on the Andong (four wheeled carriage drawn by one horse common in Jogjakarta), which was decorated with some branches and leaves. The other performances, such as Barongsai from Among Nogo, were performing during the opening festival.

Yuswantoro Adi, the director of Children Biennale says, "Biennale Anak is held to open the children sphere or space with fine arts medium". Neno Asmorondono, head of program section explained, "The goal of Biennale Anak is turning up the children skills, potencies, creativities, and absolve the child from the parent intervenes".

The main thought of Biennale Children is consideration of many artists on the children development, for example, some parents need imposed or pressure their children to reach many awards without knowing what the children want and need. So, they will give many kinds of facilities to improve the skills or talents. The condition will make the children just as a tool or robot which were driven by their parents. They don't have any creativity. It will wipe out expression and imagination.

The biennale will be set up every two years. It becomes a medium of creativity and expression of the children, especially in Jogjakarta. They will be given a space to express their skills through the exhibitions of painting, doll, mural, video, etc.

Kota Ceria Wonderland
The different side of Children Biennale is the Kota Ceria Wonderland, located in the north part of Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. It is looked like the miniature of a city. Kota Ceria Wonderland was opened on Saturday, January 16th, 2010. The facilities in Kota Ceria Wonderland give a chance for the children to know many kinds of jobs and games, such as Dol Dolanan game, the children have to use the uang dolan for finance transaction. The uang dolan is an imitation of money which is used only in Dol Dolanan game. Rupiah is not valid at wonderland. The children must bring anything such as bags, dolls, shoes, and etc. sold in Dol Dolanan bank, to get the uang dolan. The bank teller and staff, all of children, will give the price for those things later.

If the children have the uang dolan, they can buy anything in Dol Dolanan. They were challenged to play some roles such as the policeman, teller, ticketing staff, and etc. If they don't have the uang dolan, they have to work to get it, such as by singing, dancing, etc. If the children haven't satisfied with Kota Ceria Wonderland, they can have fun with book library, nail art stand, bamboo handicraft stand, community stand, animations multimedia, watching the videos and films. The parents and their children are able to relax in some food shop surround the biennale.

Some visitors of Children Biennale said that they were interested with Children Biennale programs. Mrs. Ima Bunga says, "I come to the Biennale Anak to see the painting art works which has been shown from January 15-22th, 2010". She supports the programs because it can open the children knowledge and free of charge. Everyone is invited at the biennale.
