level. After Last Eruption on Nov 2010, Merapi now reopen to ascent. The shortest and safer way to reach Merapi's summit is via northern slope at small village of Selo District, Magelang Regency, a common starting point for trekking trip to reach summit.
Upon your arrival in Yogyakarta. You could start your journey by rent the private vehicle to Selo village. Normally it will takes for about 2 hours from Yogyakarta. Arrive in Selo village then you may have rest at basecamp as they have simple accommodation.
Start trekking up at midnight and reaching the summit in early morning, a better weather as well as amazing sunrise. Normally,it's took 4 hours trekking to reach the summit in early morning. Better starting to trek at 10.00 pm, so you can see sunrise on the summit.
After take a rest at the summit, begin the descent back to Selo at 7 clock in the morning before the cloud come down,and disturb visibility distance.Take a break after 1 hour trekking along the way descent back for breakfast on fresh air environment with specific volcano open view surrounding.
Merapi Best for trekking in June-August. The sky is clearly and no rain in the night. The trekking path is dominated with 45 degree path rocks. It's an extra ordinary volcano trekking. In the top, you will see volcano eruption in the closest view ever. If you lucky, Mount Sindoro, Mount Sumbing, and Semeru Mountain which is highest mountain in the Java Island, will be appear.
