Museum Kereta, The Heritage of SultanIf you want to know the history of Sultan's traditional vehicles, you have to come to Kereta Museum Jogjakarta. It is not difficult to find the location of the museum because it is near with Jogjakarta Palace. The exact location is in south west of North Alun-Alun on Rotowijayan Street, Jogjakarta.

The museum is looked like the home stay which is the garage of the horses' palace.  The location of Kereta Museum is inside Kampong Kestalan which is beside left and right museum. If you feel hungry and tired You are also able to relax in some food street vendors that will be ready to serve. 

At Kereta Museum, you will find 23 carts which are used by The Sultan, all complete with the saddles, soldier hats, soldier buckles, apparel of horses, horses' replicas, painting collections, etc. You have to pay 4,000 rupiahs, and then you can look around the museum and take photos.

The heritage of Sultan's carts has different names and functions. For example Kyai Roto Biru cart which is inheritance from Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono VIII. This cart just has been used by Sultan's daughters. The meaning of Roto Biru is a cart which has blue color as its dominant color. Then, the Premili cart has yellow color, it has been used by Bedoyo Ketawang dancer which have amount to 16 dancers.

Among all carts, you can find one cart which is sacred. The name of the cart is Kanjeng Nyai Jimad. It was made in Holland at 1750, used by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I until Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono V. Kanjeng Nyai Jimad is the oldest cart because it was existed before the palace established at 1756. The cart must be washed in Jamasan ceremony that was held annually in Suro Month, a sacred month in Javanese calendar. 

If you do not satisfied to see the cart collections, you can see the real horse in northern part of the museum. The name of the horse is Suryo Andadari. It means taking a bath under the shine. The horse comes from United State of America. Its dominant color is grayish white, usually used in Gerebeg Besar, a Javanese ceremony in Eid Mubarak and Idul Adha. 

Kereta Museum is open for public from Tuesday to Sunday. If you want to come to this museum, don't forget to bring your camera to shot the moment.
