Jogjakarta is Malioboro, tourists who visit Yogyakarta usually spend their vacation to visit the street. It is being an icon of Jogjakarta, also the busiest tourist destination and business district in Jogjakarta. The street lives for 24 hours. The road extends for 3 km from north to south. At the south has a junction, known as Nol Kilometer (Zero Kilometers). Some people say that Malioboro comes from Marlborough, an English Governor General who ruled in Jogjakarta during colonial period. In fact, you can see the colonial building line up at the street, combined by modern building facade. One of the exciting facades known as Apotik Kimia Farma (Kimia Farma Facade), it has geometry structure and classic decoration interior.
Walking at Malioboro just as entering into a big craft market; crafts seller sell handicraft at the pedestrian. You can see lots nature hand-made craft and batiks, from sandals, sarongs, hats until bags, made from leather, dry plants, shellfishes, coconuts hand-made and rattans. You can ask price for crafts and batiks, for quarter price, often half price! Don't be hesitating to ask price. In holiday month (July - August) will be the busiest month in Malioboro Street, because lots of tourists will come here, spent their money and holiday.
Don't worry if you hungry in the Malioboro; as a tourist destination, lots of restaurants and cafes peddle food and drink. Besides morning and afternoon, you also see lots of food vendor in the night as well, from 10pm-4am. Local culinary is sold at the pedestrian, as gudeg, onion sauce, tea, coffee, steak and juice. You can choose food whatever you like, put it on plate, sit at the path and enjoy the food; it's known as lesehan vendor.
So, where do you stay if spent 24 hours in Malioboro Street? At the north of Malioboro Street, there are 2 main streets; Pasar Kembang and Sosrowijayan where tens of hotels and motels open 24 hours for guests. It's easy to get Pasar Kembang and Sosrowijayan, you can walk to the north after you pass the Tugu Railway Station. The hotels and motels are being the most strategic place to stay in, because you can go anywhere from this point and lots of motor or non-motor vehicles or even rent it at the rental place.
