Description
As the city where arts and cultures are praised, Yogyakarta never runs short of creative spectacles. On 1st to 6th July 2011, the Garasi Enterprise (A division of the Teater Garasi) will hold an art event called "Jogja Broadway Show". The event will take place at the Yogyakarta Cultural Center's "Societeit Building" (Taman Budaya Yogyakarta) , performing the play entitled "Pangeran Bintang dan Putri Embun" meaning: the Star Prince and the Dew Princess.
Jogja Broadway is a musical theater performance in "Broadway" style, which includes various artists from theater actors and actresses, mime artists, musicians and other artists around Yogyakarta. The event will be a mix of a modern and imaginative performance combining theater, dance, music and fine arts into one elaborate piece of art. There will also be Artists Merchandising exhibitions and a traditional performance called"Teriakan Tradisimu" (Shout Your Traditions!) at the lobby of the Societet Building.
The Star Prince and Dew Princess is a modern fairytale, a romantic but comical story with characters beyond the realm of imagination. A strange and fantastic land will be created on the stage of the Societeit building, a country inhabited by strange living houseware such as: Grandpa Table, Grandma Chair, Matt Bowl, Detective Laundry, Prince Frying Pan and other strange characters.
Jogja Broadway show is planned to become an annual event which will be held every major public holiday around May to June and December to January. The event is also designated as a new tourism icon for Yogyakarta, as an alternative show for tourists visiting the city.
